We’re more than a junior golf program. We’re a youth development organization. We’re here to change lives and help youth become better citizens and successful adults.

Colin, Blair and Clay, all members of The First Tee of Greater Austin, enjoy playing a round together at the Harvey Penick Golf Campus, which includes a 9-hole, PGA-designed golf course.

What Drives Us to Sponsor The First Tee?

The First Tee is a nationwide youth organization that not only teaches kids how to play golf, but gives them the skills they need to succeed in life. Using the game of golf as a hook, The First Tee mentors instill nine core values that give kids a sound strategy for meeting challenges, both on and off the course. The result is young adults who are prepared to become champions in whatever endeavors they choose to pursue. John Deere has been a sponsor since 2012.

Today, Jordan Spears is a middle school Career & Technology teacher. But in 2000, he was a member of The First Tee. That summer, Jordan was fortunate enough to attend The First Tee National Leadership Academy, being held on the campus of a Division 1 college. The experience changed his life. For the first time, he pictured himself going to college. Sure enough, Jordan went on to become the first person in his family to get a college degree. As for his style of teaching, Jordan credits his mentors at The First Tee: “They only encouraged you and pushed you to be the best that you could.”
